Following Wednesday’s poll, the Party leader took responsibility for the DNA’s performance at the 2017 General Election.  He adds his future will be determined by the Party’s board. In his message titled ‘the way forward’, which comes post Wednesday’s election, McCartney says his party accepts the choice of Bahamians, and assures its supporters that the DNA will not fold. The party in acknowledging the loss at the second consecutive poll it has contested, says in the coming weeks and months “those who continue to support a two-party system”, and even its own supporters, will witness a re-engineering of the DNA, as it seeks to become the “real change which Bahamians demand and deserve”.McCartney thanked the hundreds of Bahamians who stood by the DNA with their unwavering support, describing them as “the glue that has kept the organisation together”. In continuing his direct message to his supporters, he thanked them for “believing in the dream of the DNA and for making the often-unpopular choice to be different”, as they “have affirmed his belief that a third party can and will have a place in our country’s political story”. He adds that the DNA may not have gotten it right this time, “but Bahamians can be certain that every action, every plan and every policy position taken by the Democratic National Alliance has been in pursuit of an ideal which he believes most Bahamians believe in”.The Party leader, took time to extend congrats to FNM leader, Dr.Hubert Minnis on his “resounding victory at the polls”.  McCartney wished the newly elected Prime Minister and his new administration great success over the next five years, and called on them to live up to the “mandate given to them by the people of this country and truly create better lives for all Bahamians”.The election marks the party’s six year anniversary since its inception in November 2011.#MagneticMediaNews#BahamasGeneralElections2017#DNAGreenParty#BranvilleMcCartneylast_img read more

Huawei open to selling its 5G chips to Apple says report

first_img $999 Best Buy Boost Mobile Aug 31 • Your phone screen is gross. Here’s how to clean it Aug 31 • iPhone XR vs. iPhone 8 Plus: Which iPhone should you buy? Huawei’s foldable Mate X phone uses the company’s in-house Balong 5000 5G modem chip. Andrew Hoyle/CNET The future of 5G on the iPhone is getting messy.Starting in 2016, Apple used chips from both Intel and Qualcomm to power its iPhone’s modem, connecting it to 4G cellular networks. But in 2018, the company switched entirely to Intel’s wireless chips for its $999 iPhone XS, $1,099 iPhone XS Max and $749 iPhone XR. And it’s believed the next iPhone will also use only Intel chips as well. That’s led to speculation the iPhone won’t be able to offer new 5G wireless technology until at least 2020. In the meantime, Apple and Qualcomm are battling in court over patent licensing, with the latest trial scheduled for next week in San Diego. While that court battle continues, it’s unlikely Qualcomm will supply 5G chips for iPhones anytime soon. While that drama plays out, the Chinese tech giant Huawei says it has a solution for Apple. The company said it’s “open” to selling its own 5G Balong 5000 chipsets to Apple, Engadget reported on Monday, citing an unnamed “source with knowledge of the situation.” Huawei declined to comment. Apple didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. While Huawei may offer an alternative with its 5G modem, which is used in the Mate X phone, the company reportedly sells almost none of its wireless chips to other device makers because of national security concerns.Lawmakers in Washington consider Huawei a security threat, in part because of its close link with the Chinese government. As a result, federal agencies are banned from using the company’s products. The US has also encouraged other countries not to use Huawei tech with their 5G networks. As a result, Huawei devices are hard to come by in the US, despite it being one of the top phone makers in the world. For Apple, though, the lack of 5G wireless technology could be a liability. Every other major phone maker will have a 5G phone available by 2019.First published April 8, 1:13 p.m. PT.Update 2:30 p.m. PT: Adds details about Apple’s legal problems with Qualcomm, and Huawei national security concerns. Migrant boat sinks off Cyprus 19 dead

first_imgRescue workers from the Proactiva Open Arms Spanish NGO retrieve the bodies of an adult and a child amid the drifting remains of a destroyed migrant boat off the Libyan coast, on Tuesday 17 July, 2018. A migrant rescue aid group accused Libya`s coast guard of abandoning three people in the Mediterranean Sea, including an adult woman and a toddler who died, after intercepting some 160 Europe-bound migrants on Monday near the shores of the northern African country. Photo : APNineteen people died when a boat carrying 150 migrants sank off the coast of northern Cyprus and rescuers were searching for 25 other people, Turkey’s coast guard said on Wednesday. It said 103 migrants were rescued by boats and helicopters of the Turkish and northern Cypriot coast guards, helped by commercial boats in the area, from the sunken boat some 30 km (18 miles) off the north Cyprus coast. One rescued person was in critical condition and has been brought to northern Cyprus by helicopter, the coast guard said. It did not say where the other rescued passengers had been taken.A Panama-flagged commercial ship spotted the migrant boat some 25 nautical miles from Turkey’s southern province of Antalya and alerted the coast guard on Wednesday morning, the statement said.In 2015, Turkey became one of the main launch points for more than a million migrants taking the dangerous sea route to the European Union, many fleeing conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa.A 2016 deal between Turkey and the European Union sharply reduced the flow of refugees into the bloc, after thousands died crossing from Turkey to Greek islands a few miles offshore. From January to May this year at least 26 migrants died trying to cross to Europe from Turkey, according to coast guard statistics.Mediterranean arrivals to the bloc, including refugees making the longer and more perilous crossing from north Africa to Italy, stood at 172,301 in 2017, down from 362,753 in 2016 and 1,015,078 in 2015, according to data from the United Nations.last_img

first_imgKolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday slammed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for allegedly destroying key Indian institutions such as the CBI and the RBI. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) could play a vital role in saving the country from such destructions, the party supremo said. “They (the NDA government) are destroying institutions. They are trying to change the way the RBI and the CBI function. The CM also said that she would invite all opposition leaders to the TMC rally in January and put up a united fight against the BJP. “BJP hatao, desh bachao will be our slogan at the rally,” she stated.
