first_imgThe Revivalists are hitting a new stride of triumph with the incredible success of their hit single “Wish I Knew You”, which reached #1 at Alternative Radio last year, hitting a new record for most single-week spins ever at the format. The song also broke at Hot AC and claimed the #1 spot at Adult Alternative Radio in Fall of 2016, spending 40 weeks on the chart and becoming the most played song behind The Lumineers‘ “Ophelia.” First released in July 2015, “Wish I Knew You” has had a remarkable trajectory and a staying power rarely seen in music today. Featuring wistful lyrics, front man David Shaw‘s unmistakable soulful rasp, an indelible melody and a mix of bluesy rock and Southern R&B swagger not usually heard at the Alternative format, it’s no wonder “Wish I Knew You” has catapulted the New Orleans seven-piece to major success, national TV appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, TODAY and Conan, and back-to-back sold out headlining tours. The song’s success has run so far and wide that it is now included as a bonus track in the 37th edition of Kidz Bop. Alongside other pop hits like “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift, “New Rules” by Dua Lipa, and honestly, a bunch of songs we aren’t familiar with that appeal to lower and middle school children, The Revivalists’ song appears as a Target exclusive. The lyrics “Wish I knew you when I was young, we could have got so high” were of course changed to “we could have flown so high”. Kidz Bop is sung by kids for kids, and is pretty adorable.
