Nessie unmasked Why the Loch Ness monster is such a slippery customer

A giant eel lurking in the depths of Loch Ness may be the creature behind sightings of the fabled monster, scientists have said. The loch contains “surprise” amounts of eel DNA that could explain the enduring legend, according to the first study of its waters. Researchers from New Zealand extracted genetic samples at different depths all over the loch in a bid to establish what lives within. In a blow for Nessie hunters, they found no evidence of reptilian DNA which ruled out the past theories of a Jurassic-era plesiosaur.
